"What? Oh! Oh--no. Wasn't nothin' like that. most of the folks I know around here are ladies." Not that he has a chance with any of them, but that's beside the point. "Reminded me of somethin' else, was all."

Things he probably should forget, but can't.

"..Yeah. Makes it hard to confess. Or to...talk about much of anything close to me in that way. Folks don't believe here...can't say I blame 'em but..." Steve clears his throat. "Anyway, I was wondering if you'd like to meet up? Show me the place maybe? A-and if you still had the spare bible, I'd be awful grateful. I'm getting cooking lessons from Verity, so if you swing by to get me, I'll treat you to breakfast sometime?"

The good thing about being on the phone is that when Matt stumbles he doesn't have to hide his own expressions. Jeez, Murdock. Nothing is going on but you're feeling mighty cocky. He clears his throat and laughs at himself. "Reminded you of what?" Sorry, Steve. Matt hasn't picked up just yet that many a thing is still a tender subject.

"Hard to confess, hard to just be a little." But he is still going to try. "Oh yes. Let's for sure. I can show you my place and the church. We can get a schedule going for study too."

Steve clears his throat and nods. Beat. Rubs at the back of his neck and speaks up again.

"I appreciate it. When would you like to meet up?"

"Sounds great. Any requests for breakfast? I can make eggs, okay biscuits, and breakfast potatoes pretty well. Otherwise there's toast and generic stuff."

Getting to a different topic seems to cheer Steve up.

Hearing Steve perk up is very important. Matt's at ease again.

"Never underestimate toast, Steve." Or the power of breakfast. If he wasn't in 100% before, he sure is now.
